Parental participation

At Zetland Nursery we actively involve our parents/carers as much as possible in nursery life. We have regular newsletters informing you of important dates and activities that we may have planned and welcome your comments and suggestions.  You will be informed of nursery topics in advance and would like to hear any suggestions or ideas you may have that will support your child’s learning opportunities.  This also enables you to take an active role in your child’s life at nursery.  We value your feedback and aim to provide the best possible service.

Information

Security

The main entrance has security locks, a buzzer and CCTV.  A password is required for people other than parents who may collect your child.  We require notification of who is authorised to collect your child from nursery.  Under no circumstances will a child be allowed to leave the premises unless it is with a previously identified, authorised person.

Introductory Sessions

Before your child begins full days or sessions at Zetland Nursery we would recommend that your child visits us for short introductory sessions.  We typically offer two 1 hour settling sessions and more can be offered if your child requires more time.  No charge is made for the introductory sessions.

Children learn very quickly that nursery is a fun, friendly place to be therefore the settling-in period is rarely as difficult as you might imagine it to be.

Encouraging positive behaviour

At Zetland Nursery, we encourage positive behaviour and respect for the environment we live in and the people around them.  This is introduced to the child through guidance and example.  All positive behaviour and actions will be praised to encourage the child’s self-esteem.

Sleep Times

For sleep times we have a selection of baby prams and sleep mats that are used depending on your child’s age and preference.  A cot is also available if needed.  Fresh individual sheets and blankets are provided for every child.

Progress Reports

Each child at Zetland Nursery, (at Birth to Three stage and Curriculum Framework stage), have their own portfolio which staff complete regularly to record your child’s milestones and achievements.  In the tweenie area you will receive three progress reports per year detailing your child’s progress and development and you are welcome to view your child’s portfolio at any time.

In our pre-school area each child has a learning journey which charts your child’s progress. Progress reports are shared twice a year.

Illness

Zetland nursery is a “well” nursery.  This means that if your child is unwell we ask that you keep them at home.  If they become unwell at nursery you will be contacted by staff to collect them.  If your child requires prescription medicine, please keep your child off until they are well enough to return or free from infection.  This is to ensure other children are not infected.

Administering medication policy

In order for the nursery to administer medication, full details must be given in advance and medicine form must be filled in and signed.  The medication must be prescribed by the child’s doctor and be a current prescription.  Staff will endeavour to follow the instructions on the medical permissions form, Calpol can be given in the event of high temperature etc. but we first must obtain parental permission.  Our medication policy is available to view on request.

Policies & Procedures

Zetland Nursery has an extensive number of policies and procedures in place including: Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Child Protection, Partnership with Parents, Allergy Procedure, Prevention of Infection, Additional support  Policy.  All our policies and procedures are available to view in the office and every month a policy is shared by newsletter and email for our parents.  It is also displayed on our parents’ noticeboard.
